In the last few months I’ve become absolutely obsessed with anything involving zombies. I’m not really sure where this new obsession began, maybe with The Walking Dead, but I don’t think that can be the case since I’ve watched the show for years and my obsession only recently began. A couple of months ago I started watching Fear the Walking Dead and instantly fell in love with the show. After that I started Googling “the best Zombie books and movies” and came up with a list that I wanted to battle, in hopes of delving deeper into the Zombie nation…no pun intended! As I started reading some of these books, especially Rhiannon Frater‘s As the World Dies series, and began watching new movies and TV shows like Z Nation, I noticed an almost constant homage to famed Zombie movie creator and director George Romero. As I started researching his films I realized that one of my favorite childhood horror movies, Dawn of the Dead, was directed by none other than George Romero. Now, to many of you Zombie enthusiasts it probably sounds foolish that I didn’t already know this, but you have to remember that my obsession was new.
It has been almost two months since I wrote my last blog post. In all honestly, I’m knee deep in napping, reading books I’ve always wanted to read and watching all kinds of TV shows that this blog, and my writing in general, has taken a backseat to those more seemingly important tasks. In one of my last posts I stated that I was going to attempt to write every day for the month of August. Yet here it is October and none of that happened. Hell, I didn’t even make it to the fifth day. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Exactly. I had a client mention to me that I often post things I’m going to do on my blog but I have very little follow through. This observation got me wondering…
It’s been an interesting summer. In early May I made a list of all of the activities and goals I wanted to complete and accomplish this summer, and now as the the end of summer closes in on us, I am reminded that I haven’t actually completed many of these goals. In fact, I had planned to keep a diary for a year, but that plan fell apart on day one. So what have I been up to this summer?
One thing that some people might find interesting about me is that I’m absolutely obsessed with the television shows of my youth. At night, while I’m working on my book or working on our website, I get on YouTube and find old episodes of some of my favorite shows. Tonight, while watching an episode of Moonlighting, I was thinking about how much television has changed since the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and how, in a way, reality television has killed the excitement of TV. Don’t get me wrong, I love reality TV, but it’s just not the same as the escapism of those shows I used to wait all week to watch back in the day.
